IW-SiC was created for more transfer of knowledge. It is an outcome of the SME Alminica AB role in EU FET Open project SiComb.
ALMINICA ABs “Online platform to facilitate Transfer of Knowledge and Innovation Capacity in Silicon Carbide” is recognized as excellent science innovation. This innovation was assessed by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) Market Creation Potential indicator framework as having a “High” level of Market Creation Potential. Only innovations that are showing multiple signals of market creation potential are assigned a value under this indicator system.
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission’s science and knowledge service. It provides independent, evidence-based scientific support to EU policy-making across various areas such as climate change, energy, health, and security.

Innovation Radar goal is to allow every citizen, public official, professional and business person to discover the outputs of EU innovation funding.
The innovation was an outcome of the EU FET Open project SiComb that is a project under the Horizon 2020 program that developed concept of a CMOS-compatible, ultra-broadband Silicon Carbide (SiC) frequency comb. The frequency comb is based on the optical properties of silicon carbide to create advanced on-chip frequency combs with applications in sensing, timekeeping, optical communication, and more. It offers sustainability advantages compared to other materials. The project involves a collaboration between academia and industry to enhance Europe’s capabilities in SiC-based technologies.
The role of Alminica was transfer of knowledge and impact creation by developing methodology and provide training.
The SiComb project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 framework programme for research and innovation under grant agreement n.899679
